What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy? (A definition)

Sunray – What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

One of the things that I often get asked is what is Cognitive Hypnotherapy? In simplistic terms it can be viewed as a tool box with the individual techniques and approaches that are used within it as the tools. Because we have a wide range of tools at our disposal it means that we have the capability to deal with a variety of issues.

Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a safe, natural and highly effective form of hypnotherapy. It is a framework that combines elements of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), Evolutionary Psychology, hypnosis, Positive Psychology, Cognitive Theory and EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) to form a modern, science-based approach to therapy.

Cognitive Hypnotherapists act as guides to help you find the best way to the solution of your issue – so it’s an interactive partnership. Hypnotic trance is a relaxing, pleasant feeling similar to daydreaming. It’s an effective way of allowing both your unconscious mind and your conscious mind the opportunity to work together to solve the problem You remain in full control at all times.

Hypnotherapy is a therapy that is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis.”Wikipedia

The flexibility of the Cognitive Hypnotherapy approach ensures that the most effective techniques are used as part of a tailored solution that is specific to you and your desired outcome.

You can find out more about Cognitive Hypnotherapy from its founder Trevor Silvester of the Quest Institute by taking a look at the following article: Quest Institute.

Neuro Linguistic Programming

NLP is just another one of the tools that we use; it is a way of understanding the ways we perceive our world through our senses it is a range of techniques to help us understand our thought processes and behaviour that, when integrated with Cognitive Hypnotherapy, provide a powerful means of creating change.

A key element of NLP is that we form our unique internal mental maps of the world as a product of the way we filter and perceive information absorbed through our five senses from the world around us.

Neuro: We each establish own unique mental filtering system for processing the millions of bits of data being absorbed through the senses.

Linguistic: We then assign personal meaning to the information being received from the world outside.

Programming: The behavioural response that occurs as a result of neurological filtering processes and the subsequent linguistic map.
